Live! is the debut album from the New Orleans-based quartet, QMRplus, featuring Quin Kirchner (drums), Matthew Golombisky (acoustic bass), Robin Boudreaux (saxophones) & Matthew McClimon (vibraphone). Released in August 2005 to accompany a tour from New Orleans to Chicago, it is comprised of various excerpts recorded live at shows between January and July of that year.

The group originally formed in 2004 as a saxophone trio (without McClimon) to explore new compositional styles harnessing free improvisation. Adding McClimon’s vibes early on, the group began to improvise for long stretches in the live setting, with the intention of creating songs or “composing” together. The resulting flow between the rehearsed and the spontaneous, expressed through their unique instrumentation, solidified the sound and approach of QMRplus.

Over the course of the next several years, they performed frequently around New Orleans (including holding down a weekly gig for 6 months at the now-defunct Hookah Café at the corner of Decatur and Frenchman streets) and eventually touring around the American South & Midwest, all the while recording as much of their live material as possible.

This digital reissue of Live! - almost exactly 15 years since the original self-released, handmade CD-R came to be - is the first of several QMRplus reissues coming monthly from ears&eyes Records, coinciding with Bandcamp Fridays throughout the rest of 2020.

Formed in 2003, QMRplus was the quartet of Quin Kirchner, Matthew Golombisky, Robin Boudreaux & Matthew McClimon. While all members wrote for the group, their main focus was on free improvisation, 'spontaneous composition' & creating music in the moment.
